Overview

URBNSURF is proud to be developing URBNSURF Sydney, a world leading surf park facility, at Sydney Olympic Park – Australia’s home of Olympic sport. Surfing is a sport actively enjoyed by more than 200,000 Sydney residents. It has a higher participation rate in NSW than Rugby League (2x), Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Hockey, Squash, Volleyball, AFL, Yoga and Fishing. Sydney is blessed with a large number of surfing beaches, but access to those beaches and crowding in the line-up is becoming an increasing issue. URBNSURF Sydney will provide an authentic alternative to ocean-based surfing for Sydney residents and visitors to #surfmore safely, easily and often.

Design

Strategically located only 13 kilometres west of Sydney’s CBD, Sydney Olympic Park is the city’s demographic heart – home to a large population of residents, workers and students, and receiving over 11 million visitors per annum. Sydney Olympic Park is an ideal location for URBNSURF Sydney with its many sporting, entertainment and leisure venues (hosting over 5,500 events each year), large open green spaces, playgrounds and cycleways.

URBNSURF Sydney has been designed to use the latest version of the Wavegarden Cove technology, and will deliver high quality, authentic surfing waves to suit all abilities.

With a north-south lagoon orientation, URBNSURF Sydney has been designed to suit prevailing wind conditions. LED lagoon lighting means you can surf night and day. The facility will also feature sustainable design elements, renewable energy and water saving systems, in keeping with Sydney Olympic Park’s strong environmental sustainability ethos.

Situated less than a kilometre from the Olympic Park train station, and immediately adjacent to a likely station location on the future $1bn Parramatta Light Rail line, URBNSURF Sydney will be accessible to over 2 million Sydney residents in under 30 minutes.

Multiple lagoon-side amenities will offer something for everyone, including:

Licensed Cafe

A quality licensed cafe, roof top bar and beach club where you can have a coffee and watch the action, grab a post-surf snack on the run, or share a beer and a meal with friends after a session.

SURF RENTAL & SHOP

A fully equipped pro-shop will allow you to try-before-you-buy your new surfing hardware, as well as providing wetsuit and board rentals.

Surf Academy

URBNSURF Sydney’s Surf Academy will deliver training programmes for all levels of surfing (beginner to elite) and host a range of “surf-fit” styled personal and group fitness classes.

Amenities

Beach cabanas, skate ramps, lagoonside pools, kids playground and more.

EVENT & FUNCTION Spaces

High quality landscaping reflecting Sydney coastal habitats, integrating the built environment into the natural.

Technology

Cutting edge RFID wristband, guest management and video tracking technology that will further enhance the visitor and surfing experience.

URBNSURF Sydney promises to become a compelling and iconic destination for surfers and non-surfers alike.

Delivery

URBNSURF was nominated as the preferred proponent for the 3.2ha site located at Pod 5B, Sydney Olympic Park, in 2016.

Following the completion of a site master plan, preliminary design and detailed site feasibility studies, a lease of the site was signed in September 2016. The State Significant Development application for URBNSURF Sydney was submitted to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in June 2017, and underwent a comprehensive assessment, public exhibition and review process.

Planning approval for URBNSURF Sydney was granted in December 2017, and construction activities commenced in 2021.

With construction and commissioning of the facility taking around a year and a half to complete, URBNSURF Sydney is anticipated to open to guests in 2024.
